DIY Wedding Sea Shell Bouquet

Looking for an alternative to a traditional flower bouquet?  You can make your own Sea Shell Bouquet.  With a little work and A LOT of glue, you can have a memento from your wedding that will last a lifetime!

DIY Beach Wedding Inspiration Ideas I got married on a beach in Mexico on valentines day at sunset. My bouquet has silk tropical looking flowers, every security person tried to stop me in the airport because they looked real.:

What you need:

  • Shells (your choice)
  • Rhinestone Buttons (your choice)
  • Pipe Cleaners (your choice color: I chose White)
  • Flower Wire
  • Hot Glue Gun and glue
  • Wire Cutter
  • Scissors
  • Fabric (your choice: I chose white organza)
  • Ribbon (your choice: I chose white ribbon)
  • Needle
  • Thread (same color as fabric)
  • Empty Paper Towel Roll

DIY Wedding Sea Shell Bouquet

What to Do:

STEP 1: Make triple loop knots at the end of the pipe cleaners, then use hot glue gun to glue knotted end of pipe cleaner to underside of shells.Make sure all glue has dried

STEP 2: Twist the end of pipe cleaner through the loop of the rhinestone buttons, and start intertwining the “shell flowers” together.

-This is where you can be artistic! Start at the top of the stem and twist down.

-The tighter the twist, the more sturdy the bouquet.

STEP 3: Glue the edges of the shells together as you go along. Do not worry about gaps, these will be addressed later.

-Make sure the glue is mainly on the underside of the shell so that the glue is not seen in the final bouquet

STEP 4: Once you have your base of the bouquet finished, take the flower wire to intertwine through stems to create stability. The more wire intertwined, the stronger the bouquet will be.

STEP 5: Pick your “rhinestone flowers” and thread the bottom of the pipe cleaner stems into the bouquet. Wrap the rhinestone stems around the handle of the bouquet. You can use more hot glue to attach the rhinestone stem to the handle.

STEP 6: Take individual shells (without pipe cleaner stems attached) and glue them to top of bouquet to cover any gaps.

– The more layering of shells, the more dimensions the bouquet will have.

STEP 7: Use wire cutters to cut handle of the bouquet to your desired length. Cut empty cardboard paper towel roll from top to bottom (long ways). Then cut the paper towel holder the same length as the bouquet handle.

STEP 8: Put a line of hot glue long ways on the inside of the paper towel holder and attach to stem of bouquet. Tightly wrap it around the stem and end off by hot gluing the holder together.

-you can layer the cardboard if you want a thicker handle.

STEP 9: Cut 3 inches of ribbon. Hot glue ribbon across the bottom of the handle.
Start wrapping the rest of the ribbon around the bottom of the bouquet.

– Attach the beginning of the ribbon with hot glue.

-Tightly work your ribbon wrap around to the top of the bouquet handle and attach with hot glue.

STEP 10: Bunch up fabric and sew with needle and thread around pipe cleaners on the underside of the shells, and attach any “flyaway” fabric to border of shell bouquet using hot glue

STEP 11: Decorate your handle as desired. AND SHOW OFF YOUR BOUQUET!!!
